Speakers come from Project Management related disciplines across the spectrum and the meetings have proven to be valuable time spent by all attendees. Project Managers with PMI certifications can earn 2 PDUs for each Chapter meeting attended.

Educational session

Title: Lean: Back to the Basics

Speaker: Maria Grzanka

The term “Lean” was first introduced in the U.S. by James Womack and Dan Jones in their book, Lean Thinking. Since then, there have been dozens of Lean tools and techniques implemented in many organizations. Each organization puts its own spin on how the tools are implemented. This presentation demonstrates value stream mapping and the 5S as examples to understand the underlying principles.

What you will learn:

•       5 Lean Principles: identify value, map the value stream, create flow, establish pull, and seek perfection
•       Components of a high-level value stream map
•       The 5S: sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain

Keynote session

Title: Lean in The Living Organization®

Speakers: Maria Grzanka & Norman Wolfe

Many Lean implementations fall short of the ideal vision and often fizzle out over a few years. Culture is often cited as the reason. At the core of the culture issue is the focus on “Lean Doing” rather than “Lean Thinking” as originally laid out by Womack and Jones.  How do we shift back to “Lean Thinking?”

The Living Organization® Framework uses a model of Activity, Relationship, and Context (ARC) to explain how results are achieved. The ARC Framework™ complements with other tools and techniques and help understand how to increase the effectiveness in achieving results.

What you will learn:

• Recognize elements of The Living Organization®
• Create awareness of activity, relationship, and context
• Apply ARC framework to a project management value stream
